Phoenix Winter Guards
What is Winter guard? Winter guard is a relatively new, hybrid, performance art form that combines elements of music, dance and military-like precision-marching in a competitive arena into a total entertainment package. Born out of the Drum Corps/Marching Band world from the more traditional form known as color guard, winter guard came into existence about twenty-five years ago, and is now an international sport. It involves the manipulation (spins, tosses, flips, etc.) of equipment (rifles, flags, sabers and anything else we can think of) while moving the body, and moving around the performance space. Winter guard is definitely a spectator sport! But it is also a highly competitive sport. Winter guard has often been referred to as the "sport of the arts". Winterguard Weekly
Each week, Mrs. Moore prepares a newsletter called the Winterguard Weekly that she distributes to each student in the program. It is her way of keeping parents and students informed. If for some reason your child doesn't bring one home - be sure to check here and we will have it up in a few days.
